HP z820
it was working fine last night when I turned it off but now it won't turn on.
some info:
  • no lights/fans coming on when I pressed the front power button. I recall seeing the a blue LED that turns on when the power button has been pressed. I've reseated the front panel motherboard header that contains the wires for the front power button just in case that has gotten loose.
  • no lights/fans coming on when I pressed the rear power button
  • I pulled the PSU and I noticed that there's a green LED on the back. I have not seen the LED light up as well. (but then again, I never noticed the green LED when it was working yesterday as I didn't know it's there)
  • I didn't unplugged/plugged back any motherboard power cables yesterday.
  • I've just unplugged/plugged back in the main power supply cable just to make sure it didn't come loose.
Any more ideas? Thanks
EDIT1: I know with normal power supplies, there's a wire I can connect to ground so the power supply with power up. Does someone know which wire/pin have this on the Z820?
EDIT2: I found the Built-in Self Test (BIST) feature of the PSU. According to the Z820 service manual, I need to remove the power supply from the case and plug-in the power cable. If I get a light on the green LED, the power supply is functional. I get a light on the green LED on mine.

the BST test indicates the power supply is functioning,.......... if you get no beeps/flashing power light then the motherboard has most likely failed on the z820 if you remove the cpu(s) or all ram it will still beep and flash the power light if the motherboard is functional

only thing i can suggest is to  do a "factory" bios reset,.....remove power cord then press pwr button 10 sec and then open case remove cmos batt then press cmos reset button for 3 sec and then reinstall cmos batt and power cord and press power button to see if it powers on, if so enter bios and set time/date
