Sooo the "HP Z2 G9 Tower" has a proprietary sized (dimensional) PSU...AND it only offers a maximum wattage of 700??  HP didn't use to play this proprietary BS game, which is why I USED to choose them over Dell.  Many of the higher-end GPUs/systems are better suited with at least a 750-850W.  Help me, because I do not get it.  This is a workstation, right??

not all workstations required a top end configuration of parts or a full sized tower in expandability

your z2 g9 is a lower end system that is a mini tower, not a full sized tower model

as such it's target market is quite a bit different and 700 watts is rather high end for this model

HP offers 4 supplies from 350 to 700 watts for it

see the listed options in the HP "quickspecs" of your model z2 g9 tower

you want/need more wattage? then buy a higher end system like the  z6 or z8 series

https://www.hp.com/us-en/workstations/desktop-workstation-pc.html#section=Highenddesktops

workstations from "ANY "tier one vender have almost always been unique board/case designs

and you seem to be unaware of the target market for workstations, they are usually sold with "SPECIFIC" software applications in mind and as such the hardware is tailored to match the ISV's certified software requirements

due to this most workstations are not usually sold as general purpose systems to end users

although most workstation venders do offer a configure to order "CTO" option for some model lines
