Hey man thanks a lot for the help. Even though I couldn't solve the problem, I just decided to RMA the drives. After testing them on 3 different computer and none of them can recognize the the drive, I concluded that they were dead on arrival. I spoke with Newegg and apparently they don't test refurbished stuff before selling them. I guess they just trust the manufacturer that they get their stuff from.

I learn a lot of useful stuff from you. I bought this HP Z600 so I can start playing around and learning about workstation/servers. It has been a great learning experience so far. I really appreciate all the cool troubleshooting tools and methods you showed me. Thanks

Happy to help, and there are some great posts in here about upgrading your processors to the two very fastest quad or hexacores HP certified for the Z600.  And, adding in a HP USB3 card.  It's all in here.....

My two personal Z600s test out as fast as the new Z640s we buy at work, and even a bit faster when I run from the Kingston Predator M.2 boot SSD I posted about in here.  Good on you!

Just wanted to update the post incase people are having similar problem.

It turns out after trying couple more, from another source, HGST/Hitachi Ultrastar A7K2000 that the computer does not support this hard drive. Which is weird because it is SATA II... I did try the HGST/Hitachi Ultrastar 7K4000 and it works fine. Which is weird because the Ak74000 is Sata III (6gb/s). I wish I can figure out why this is the case. Does anyone know what the A stand for in A7K2000?

Hello,

First post.

I have an HP Z600 and I am trying to install a Samsung 860EVO SSD as the primary boot and software drive. I absolutely cannot get it to work.

Booting from a valid Windows 7 Pro disc I have tried the following:
-install via USB-SATA adapter.
-install via internal SATA connection

-install via internal SATA connection to PCIe2 x8(4) card [current working hard drive is connected to this card)

-ive tried setting the BIOS to IDE

-i believe i have upgraded the BIOS (how do i verify this?)

At one point I seemed to get through the install process with the SSD, with the drive connected to the main motherboard SATA ports, but then I had an issue with the Nvidia Quadro 4000 display driver...I believe I updated that and then had a problem where the machine would boot but to a black screen where I could see the cursor and thats it.

I really could use some help here.

Thanks,

Brett
