HP Pro Mini 400 G9 Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 11

We have a number of these new computers.
They all behave the same. After boot, you have to move the keyboard and mouse to a different USB port to make them work. We saw this behaviour from the first connection when setting them up. Now, the users are swapping keyboard and mouse ports every morning.

I have updated all drivers and BIOS and installed software/drivers from he keyboard/mouse manufacturer. The user still using heir old Lenovo PC's does  not have the same problem.

Any suggestions?

Please check your bios setting and ensure that legacy USB support is disabled.

If the above does not work then possibly the problem is the fast boot:  Windows is loading an image that has the wrong USB settings.

Disable fast boot as explained here or just use the picture below

If the above does not work then there is a complicated work around using the Microsoft utility devcon but try the above first

Hi

I have disabled legacy charging in bios and fast boot in the power settings. But it has not changed anything.

This is really strange.  Are these systems on a domain where group policies are set for the users?

Just guessing, as for example: a group policy might be set to prevent USB ports from using flash drives.  If the policy is not set correctly possibly certain USB ports are disabled after Windows finishes it's startup.

They are on azuee ad with no polecies. The previous lenovo computers did not have the problem.

It's only the keyboard and it will stop working quite fast after boot.

I the the led light up on the keyboard, so it's powered up.

azuee ad?

What is Azure AD used for?
Microsoft Windows Azure Active Directory (Windows Azure AD or Azure AD) is a cloud service that provides administrators with the ability to manage end-user identities and access privileges. Its services include core directory, access management and identity protection.

Does the problem occur when signed in as administrator?

Check group policy for USB.  Possibly some are disabled after startup.  I am just guessing.  Administrators normally are not denied access to USB, only "plain users"

run gpedit and compare what you see to the following

I have no experience with Azure AD management, sorry.

There are not group policies set.

The issue is present before logging in.

There are other ways to mess with USB in Azure AD

as a test, take one of the problem systems set the bios to defaults and do a FACTORY OS RESTORE

do not join to any domain/network or load any 3rd party software simply do the restore and see if the kbd/mouse works when powering on the system or rebooting

if the factory restore works normally you have a problem with your domain settings or software loaded on the system

and do not have a hardware issue
