Microsoft Windows XP

Hello, I'm doing some cleaning and trying to get rid of a few things. I have an old XW8200 Dual Xeon 3.4 workstation (2 actually) I was going to sell on the local classifieds. I didn't really care what I'd get for it. Even if it was like 20 bucks I would have been ok with that thinking someone might like tinkering around with it. But I was curious to see what the going rates of these were and was surprised to see that they don't seem to be as widely available as I thought and the few that are available on Ebay are going for like >$1000 and motherboards ~$300. That seemed crazy to me - I thought such an old machine would be pretty much worthless. I'm figuring these sellers - like a lot of sellers of anything - think their stuff is worth a whole lot. But just so I'm sure - it's an old machine, so worthless right? I'm not someone who needs to max out a sale but if I could get a little something for it then that would by nifty.

I'm not interested in parting it out, just want to sell it as is. I did a clean install of XP and drivers, that's about it.

What should I set as a starting advertised price? Regardless, I'd just keep lowering the price over time until someone bites.

the system is worthless to 99% of the users, however there are some companies who have replace with only approved or replace with exact policies these sysadmins/IT personal  are the very few people who might need a obsolete system like your xw8200

all other users moved onward to newer hardware over a decade ago!!

the only thing that might still be useful is the case, it's heavy gauge steel and early 8200's came with a normal pc backplate cutout (later ones had stamped I/O cutouts) and it will mount a normal ATX power supply. even the front I/O cabling can be changed rather easily to support modern motherboards the only thing making this a no brainer is the motherboard mounting it's not fully ATX mounting the mounting points are mostly in the right places but three locations will need some modding for full ATX compatibility I have a xw8200 case that i kept when i tossed the insides

Great, thanks for the info. I'll agree the case is very nice and quite heavy duty. But I'm not a builder nor modder, so no use for me in keeping it. So now I can post it guilt free and someone might be interested in it for one reason or another. Thanks !!
