Z800
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have purchased a better RAID disk controller, as was helpfully recommended to me in this other thread: Solved: How to get JBOD on HP Z800 - HP Support Community - 7697776 I installed it in the bay furthest from the PSU.

I was also able to find the mini-SAS cable and the adapter that enables me to connect the cable from the drive bays to my new controller. I tried both mini-SAS ports. I even tried connecting a drive directly to the mini-SAS cable and to SATA power.

But I am not sure how to proceed. The Adaptec controller does not appear in device manager. Do I have to disable the built in RAID controllers in order for it to work? I tried to look under Storage / Storage options but dont find an apparent setting that disables the onboard disk controllers. I upgraded to the latest BIOS firmware but that didnt make a difference.

I downloaded an Adaptec utility called maxView for Windows x64 that has a HTTP interface, but I am not able to see any drives and it says there are no controllers in the system. For that reason I cannot add any drives to an array either.

If anyone is able to help I would be very grateful.

PM me, i have a ASR-6805T working in a z800 first, reset z800 to factory defaults, then disable onboard LSI bios and if not using any LSI ports on motherboard, disable LSI controller also

the 6805 requires a x8 pcie slot the z800 has two of these slots along with one free x16 bit slot (vid card uses other x16)

if the card is in the correct slot, and working, on startup the card will show press  "ctrl + A" to enter card bios, then select reset to defaults to reset 6805 to factory defaults now reboot

enter 6805 bios, and any drives attached should show if not check that you have "FORWARD" type sas/sata not reverse type

they look the same, but are wired differently

if using the 6805T and want to use the 4 internal hotswap bays you need a sff08987 to SAS/SATA "MALE" cable not female!!

or four MALE to MALE SATA adapters to use normal cables (see below)

SFF-8087 to SAS/SATA MALE cable

Forward (good, works)
