Hi all.
looking to find out upgrade options for my 8750W.
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-EliteBook-8770W-Upgrade-Pat...
seems to call out 64gb memory is possible, has anyone tried it? I’m running 32gb.( Whilst I get 8770 is the bigger brother it runs same core and memory)
cpu I know fastest is 3940xm core i7 so that’s next on the list.
GPU I’ve seen some manage to upgrade to a 965M mxm card and others but curious what bios’s work.
im aware the Msata isn’t bootable via bios which is a shame, but plan to fit a 2tb ssd in the machine and use Msata for a standard drive

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
The quad-core processor version of HP EliteBook 8570w Mobile Workstation has four RAM slots. These slots allow for a maximum of 4x8GB of RAM. However, dual-core 8570w versions may only have two RAM slots.
1.) Make sure you got the most recent BIOS update F.71 Rev.A: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-elitebook-8570w-mobile-workstation/5257502
2.) Yes, the i7-3940XM (4-Cores, 8-Threads, 3.00 GHz up to 3.90 GHz, 55-watt TDP) is the very best processor option for your 8570w.
3.) Use DDR3 2133 MH RAM modules such as Kingston HyperX KHX2133C11S3L/8G as seen with this user: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/69978369.
An eBay DDR3 2133MH Kingston HyperX Predator 2x8GB RAM kit purchase option: https://www.ebay.com/itm/395998348315?_skw=Kingston+HyperX+KHX2133C11S3L%2F8G&itmmeta=01JX8KFS6S3KYA....
[EDIT:] Sorry: this is 2x8GB of DDR3 2133 MHz UDIMM RAM, not SODIMM you need...

Thanks for the detail.
currently running 4x8gb DDR3L 1600 1.35v in the machine but sounds like I could go a higher speed. I’d got the 1600 based on a memory website. So will hunt for the faster stuff.
hopefully the standard heatsink will be suitable for the 55w 3940xm although I have seen the 8770 dual pipe heatsink might fare better but looks to be longer

[EDIT:] The 2x8GB 2133 MHz RAM the aforementioned user installed, is DDR3 SODIMM RAM: G751JT + 32GB DDR3 2133mhz RAM! - Page 2 - Republic of Gamers Forum - 617189.

Yes, my bad: the eBay link shows DDR3 UDIMM 240-pin RAM.
Here is an example of an eBay 2x8GB DDR3 2133 MHz SODIMM 204-pin RAM kit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/226540837028?_skw=DDR3+2133+SODIMM&itmmeta=01JX8W8GSZ8AHTXTKSQWVFGP2X&hash=....
[EDIT:] Still looking for a 2x8GB DDR3 2133 MHz SODIMM RAM kit for you...

I reached out to a couple of AliExpress Sellers: "Dear Seller, I am looking for a 2x8GB DDR3 2133 MHz SODIMM RAM kit such as: Kingston HyperX KHX2133C11S3L/8G or G.SKILL Ripjaws F3-2133C11Q-16GRSL DDR3-2133 204-pin SODIMM", and see what comes out of it.
Some eBay Seller is bound to offer a 2x8GB Kingston HyperX KHX2133C11S3L/8G RAM kit for sale at some point -if you would still be interested in it, so I would occasionally search for it.
Btw, something very close (and affordable) would be the 2x8GB Timetec DDR3 1866 MHz SODIMM RAM kit: Timetec 16GB KIT(2x8GB) DDR3L / DDR3 1866MHz PC3L-14900 / PC3-14900 Non-ECC Unbuffered 1.35V / 1.5V ....

Thanks for the detail. I did trawl AliExpress but found a lot of the 8gb ddr3L sticks were 1600mhz maximum hence having those in the machine at present as I’d recently got 4 sticks. As I have max ram I’ll keep an eye out for them if they turn up.
i assume latest bios .71 (currently have .43) is needed should the other ram you mentioned be available.
