Hp Z420

Hi!
This saturday i'll switch my Z240 with a Z420.
I think the Z420 has Xeon E5-1620 V2 on it.

What is the the highest performing CPU to put on it? (i really don't know if the motherboard accepts only xeon or even intel cpu).

Thanks!

It all depends on whether you have a v1 or a v2 Z420. You can use google to look up how to tell... it is best determined by looking in BIOS at the boot block date. You'd want a v2.

If you truly have a v2 processor in that Z420 and it is running well that also is a great way to know you have a v2 motherboard in place. Then find the latest HP QuickSpecs document you can and look at the available v2 processors certified by HP to work. You want memory that is at least as fast as that processor can run or the whole system will slow down to the slowest speed. That info is all in here...

Thank you, as soon as i can i'll try to look at the bios.
I've already bought a Xeon E5-2697 v2 for this Z420... i hope that this will fit well 😄

I checked the MB and unfortunately i have the V1 version, so i can't use the E5 2697 v2 i bought.
