Hi, i have a old Hp Z220 workstation. Before considering throwing away can this be upgraded? Looking for the best processor i can run on the board 1790. Want to boot from an nvme or m.2 win 10 or 11 and have 2 ssds for storage. Old desktop but im sure this is still capable of something like this?

this system will not normally support bootable nvme drives, however there are 2 software based preloaders that boot off of a usb key (Refind+Duet and clover) which adds the missing nvme boot code
check for posts by me on this subject
however unless you like tinkering (and have a nvme ssd already) using a fast SATA based ssd is recommended as it's plug and play and has the required boot times that will satisfy most users
also, unless you have the Minitower z220 you will be limited video card wise the tower model can have power supply mods done that cannot fit the SFF models internally
for cpu 's: (Quad-Core, HT,)
the intel Xeon processor E3-1280v2, @3.6/4.0 GHz is the fastest HP supported cpu using 1600mhz ram
for cpu with embedded video, the Intel Xeon processor E3-1245v2, 3.4/3.8 GHz w/1600 MHz ram support and Intel HD Graphics P4000, w/Intel vPro Technology
to install windows 11 you will need to modify the windows installer to bypass the TPM/CPU checks (google this)
