Hi, I would like to change the fans of my RAM memory with Noctua ones, but I don't know what the various pins are, could someone tell me what the various pins are? If so, could you indicate them to me with the numbers in the photo? thanks in advance 🙂

HP spent a lot of time and energy testing for what was the best balance between cooling and high performance, and low noise. That is why after years of experimenting I've chosen to stick with the HP choices on critical fans in the HP workstations. I do like the Noctua fans quite a bit but here's the issue... There is a complex cooling algorithm built by the HP engineers into the HP motherboard's firmware. That is adjusted by PWM modulation from the motherboard out to the PWM fans they choose. HP generally uses PWM fans that are rated to high RPMs and strongly modulates their RPMs down with PWM control. They do this because such fans are built to last and then HP runs them slower so they last a very long time while providing the targeted cooling. Thus, when you take a nice quiet slow Noctua PWM fan and apply that HP PWM algorithm to it the end result is that the Noctua fan runs too slow and the cooling is insufficient. Nice and quiet but insufficient. You can do better on the quiet front by just cutting all the wires to each fan.

You can figure out the pinout if you wish by using a continuity tester and checking how those 6 pin sockets relate to the fan's wire ends. Some will be unique to one fan but others will be in continuity with more than one fan. Do this out of the workstation of course. The rotor end of each wire is easy to access beneath each fan's stick-on label.

as "SDH" pointed out there is no reason to replace the fans with different ones as they will not improve the cooling or lower the noise level

the only reason you might have to is if a existing fan is failing and if so replace with same using the part number listed on the fan label

the HP number for a complete mem fan assembly is 468761-001

and a quick search shows amazon having one for 19.00 USD
