Hi @MIG2000
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
The DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION error in Windows 11 is often triggered by outdated or incompatible drivers—especially storage, graphics, or firmware—and can reappear after updates override stable configurations. You can resolve this by disabling problematic updates and manually installing verified drivers.
It’s exhausting to face constant blue screens, especially after doing everything right—restoring the system, updating, scanning. Let’s break the cycle and get your PC stable again.
What causes this error?
The DPC Watchdog Violation (Stop Code: 0x00000133) is triggered when Windows waits too long for a system response—usually from a driver or hardware component. Common culprits include:
- Outdated SSD firmware or storage drivers
- Incompatible graphics drivers
- Faulty Windows updates
- Conflicts with antivirus or third-party utilities
Step-by-step fix to stop the BSOD loop:
1. Disable automatic driver updates
Windows Update may be reinstalling unstable drivers.
- Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl, and hit Enter
- Go to Hardware > Device Installation Settings
- Select No (your device might not work as expected)
- Click Save Changes
2. Install Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) manually
This driver is often missing or outdated and causes watchdog errors.
- Visit: Intel IRST Driver – HP Support
- Download and install the latest version for your system
- Restart your PC
3. Update SSD firmware (if applicable)
If you use an SSD, outdated firmware can trigger watchdog violations.
- Identify your SSD model via Device Manager > Disk Drives
- Visit the manufacturer’s site (e.g., Samsung, Intel, WD) for firmware tools
- Follow instructions to update safely
4. Install graphics drivers directly from the vendor
Avoid Windows Update versions.
- For NVIDIA: NVIDIA Driver Downloads
- For AMD: AMD Drivers
- For Intel: Intel Graphics Drivers
5. Run DISM and SFC to repair system files
These commands fix corruption that may reappear after updates.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Let me know your exact HP model and SSD type if you'd like help locating firmware or driver updates tailored to your system. I’ll guide you through blocking updates or setting up a stable configuration.
