Z440
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Z440 V4 with a Z Turbo G2 as boot drive. bios version: M60 v02.41 1/25/18

Just want to add a Samsung 860 EVO 512GB as a storage drive.

Installed Samsung 860 EVO 512GB drive in lowest bay with D1 and SATA cable to last grey 6gb port to the right.

Drive does not show, switched from RAID to AHCI, still does no show.

Uninstalled and blew out the cable ends with air duster, reinstalled, still does not show.

I have an error code oooooo1c in device manager for RAID Controller.

the evo drive is a 2.5 in SATA version correct?

do you have power and a sata data cable attached?

does the bios show the evo drive attached?

if so have you gone into disk mangment and initialized  then created a partition on the evo drive?

if the bios does not show the evo you have a power issue or a bad data cable/port or a dead drive

Yes, the evo drive is a 2.5 in SATA.

yes, I have power and a sata data cable attached.

Not sure if it shows in bios, How do i get into bios? I can can get in the UEFI

I have brought up disk mangment and the drive does not show there.

I know the drive is good, It shows on a  external hard drive SATA enclosure.

I will try a new Sata cable next I'll be back.

Thank you.

please download and read the HP user and service manuals for your z440, it will cover how to enter the bios appon startup

Maybe I'm missing something, I have gone through the manual, and all I get is, enter F10 or escape, escape, takes me to the boot menu, (which BTW list the 860evo 2.5 GB ssd I'm trying to install) and anything else I do to get out of the boot menu takes me to the UEFI dashboard, F10 also takes me to the UEFI dashboard.

Like I mention above, the   2.5 500 GB ssd, is listed in the boot menu under legacy. IE: Legacy Samsung 860 evo 2.5 500 GB ssd.. this is the only place where I see any sign of the SSD, It does not show in Disk management, or anywhere else the I'm aware of.

Thank you for you help, very much appreciated.

One other thing I should mention, I don't know if it is relevant or not, in Device manager, other devices, raid controller. it states

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

I have tried to install drivers but the install always fails.

Do I need these drivers? It also looks like the drivers were uninstalled by HP, event log states uninstalled before I received the Z440, it is brand new.

sounds like the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise" drivers are not installed

check device manager, do you see a yellow "!" if so that's the problem

the z440 does not use the normal intel RST driver it requires the RSTe (enterprise) driver

go here:

download the   sp82728.
