HP Z440 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Z440, installed pair of Samsung EVO SSDs in RAID1. One drive failed after 5 days. Received replacement, installed, system recognizes, went into setup, now status shows "Rebuild", no longer "Degraded." Both Samsung SSDs appear in the member drive list below the status line. I looked at some HP docs online. It is not clear whether the "OS" will automatically complete the rebuild, or not. When  I follow the steps in the docs, I arrive at the RST screen where "Create RAID" seems to be the only viable menu choice. But I do not want to erase the current info on the original (good) drive.  I rebooted and the status of the RAID still shows : "Rebuild." Is there anything else I need to do to complete this "Rebuild" ?

for intel matrix (bios based)  raid, you usually have to "break" the existing array them remove the failed drive then add the new replacement drive to the existing array

Thanks. I just replaced the failed drive and added it to the array and booted into Windows.

When the RST shows "Rebuild" as the status, I guess what that really indicates is that the array is in the process of rebuilding. I just let the machine run for a day and when I rebooted, the Status of the RAID had changed from Rebuild to Normal, or whatever the label was for normal operation. I didn't have to do anything else.
