I have a z440 workstation and I am having trouble getting the TPM updater to change the TPM to 2.0. Full story in this post:
My question is that I purchased this PC without a hard drive and I did a clean install of windows 10. There is no HP_TOOLS partition on the drive. could that be causing the problem with the TPM updater?

Before attempting to upgrade to TPM 2.0, make sure the system BIOS has been updated to the latest available version. Check for the latest BIOS version first and if necessary update the bios
the drives partitions have no effect on the latest HP TPM updater, i looked at your previous post and the screenshots show a upgrade was completed successfully
You can verify the current TPM firmware version on the computer by opening a powershell windows in current windows builds and type TPM.MSC
note that the HP updater has the ability to update v1.2 to the latest build or update 1.2 to 2.0 same for downgrading 2.0 to 1.2
how the update works depends on which command is run on the updater when started. i recommend you take the time to read the updaters included documentation

Thanks for the reply.
Yes I updated to the latest bios and I did choose to update to 2.0. However when I get back to windows it's still 1.2.
I watched a video of someone going through the procedure. And I'm the video, after he pressed f1 the second time in the bios, you could see a progress bar of the tpm being updated. I don't get that. It just goes right back into Windows.
