HPZ400
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

Before i upgraded my cpu i had 24 gb (4x6 gb) working perfect.

Then i upgraded the cpu from Xeon W3565 to W3690 and get the following messages at startup;

- 209 and 203/204 (memory module failed self test and user rank was disabled Slot Cpu0 dimm 5 and 6

- tried to switch working memory banks into dimm 5/6  still not 5/6 working.

-windows 10 shows installed memory 24 gb, available memory 16 gb.

Can anyone please help me?

Many thanks in advance!

are your aware that the z400 has a tripple memory controller and that ram must be in banks of three (no two or four)

and that all ram in a bank (the three modules) must match in size and all of the other specs

please refer to the memory placement label on the cover of the z400

note that ver 1 boards only have 4 ram slots

ver 2 boards have 6 slots

Thank youvery much for your quick reply.

I have a version 2 with 6 dim slots. And before the cpu upgrade it worked fine. (Only touched cpu, nothing else..)

Now i tried installing first 3 black slots, then 3 wite slots as described, same issue (error codes) any other ideas? Thanks in advance  again

if swapping dimms did not change the socket number of the error

you may have bent a pin on the cpu socket when swapping cpu's,  you can try removing the heatsink unlatching the cpu and carefully remove the cpu and look at the pins in the socket and  if it looks good clean the cpu contacts lightly with  a pencel eraser and reseat cpu to see if it was just a poor connection

did you drop the cpu into the socket when swapping cpu's?

Okay im gonna try that.

Yes i put it (dropped) carefully into the socket.

Replaced the cpu 2 times but didnt checked or cleaned the pins @socket.

Do i have to drop it into the socket or 'press' it into it?

you need to carefully place it into the socket so the edges of the cpu do not hit any of the socket pins and bend them
