The max memory speed those E5-2620 V2 processors can support is 1600 MHz, from the Intel specifications.  The fastest a set of dual processors can support in the Z620 v2 is 1866 MHz.  So, if your two processors were rated at 1866 and all your memory was also 1866 then that would be ideal.  There is more to it, however.

You cannot run ECC buffered and ECC unbuffered memory simultaneously, so if what you have presented is accurate then you cannot run the 4GB sticks along with the 8GB sticks you have.  Not the end of the world.

The memory placement you also are dealing with has to do with getting the very best performance out of your memory... read up on quad channel memory configurations.  However, that is a moot point because from all you have said you will only be able to run 12 sticks if you use only your twelve 4GB sticks.

Good luck on your project.

Thanks for your help on this everyone. I will prpbably keep the system at 48GB and keep the RAM or another system.

I appreciate the advice on all of this. Getting a Z620 has been a great learning curve so far. Having done a bit of research, I want to upgrade the processors and will create a new topic for that.

Chris
