the HP z240 systems use NON-ECC • UDIMMS (Unbuffered) and each of the two dual slot memory channels must contain identical dimms IE- bank 0 two 8gb dimms Rank2  = 16gb and bank 1 two 4gb dimms Rank 1 = 6gb for 24gb total ram

if you do not know the in and outs of ram then i strongly recommend you visit this site and buy ram from them or at least note the posted ram specs and use that as a reference

Hello, thanks for all the info here, I am learning a lot. The Kingston RAM I have appears to be unbuffered and unregistered according to this site Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 Memory (jw.com.au)

This ram is compatible with the motherboard if I use something like an i5 6500 right?

I was fortunate to find a i5 6500 CPU. I've been able to boot using the hyperx non-ecc and I have a display visible from the motherboard display Port.

Current BIOS is N51 ver 01.24.

I'll see if I can update the BIOS. I Also need to fix a fan detection error (it has an aftermarket PSU with an adaptor. Then I'll see if I can get a GPU working, then see if I can boot with the xeon CPU.

Thiniare looking good! Thanks everyone.

Got the i5 6500 in there and updated BIOS. Windows installed. Put in a GT 970 GPU and updated drivers.

Reinstalled E3 1230v6. Bios displayed, reset CMOS, stuck in a boot loop for a while. Eventually windows loaded.

Swapped out the GT 970 for a RTX 3060 and drivers updated.

All seems to be performing well. Still gets the 90e fan error but I'm not worried.

I'll find some more unbuffered non-ecc ram soon.

Thanks for the help everyone!
