Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have a ProDesk 600 G4 SFF with damaged chassis. We want to take the system board and use that in another ProDesk 600 G4 chassis that has a bad system board. Can we reprogram the serial number in the BIOS after we swap the system board so that it matches the chassis? Or should we just swap the stickers on the chassis.

Hi:

I don't know if the procedure has changed over the years, but I was able to use this guide to change the serial number for an HP 8200 Elite CMT for exactly what you want to do-- have the serial number on the case match the serial number in the BIOS after I put a different motherboard into a different HP 8200 Elite case.

If that doesn't work, I guess you will have to carefully change the stickers.

Thanks Paul, Unfortunately the newer desktops don't have the CTRL-A option anymore and the system ID's screen is on the Main area of the BIOS options. If you have a new system board then I think they will have the Set Machine Unique Data option for programming the model & serial number etc. Also unfortunately, there is no way to get that back once it is programmed. So sticker switching it will be...  Its almost as annoying as the newer desktop system boards without any bios password reset jumper. 😡😉2023-08-24_15-29-57.jpg
