How can I troubleshoot Wake on LAN?

First we enabled "S5 Wake on LAN" in BIOS Setup. This doesn't work. After some research we found the LAN-Ports disabled after Power off.

We additionally switched "Advanced" - "Power On Options" Remote Boot Source to Remote Server. After this LAN-Ports are enabled after Power Off and WoL works.

But after around 12 hours (over night) the LAN ports are disabled. In the morning WoL doesn't work until power cycle (power on and off or disconnect and reconnect power cable)

I tried the following additional options in BIOS:

  • Network Boot: Enabled
  • Fast Boot: Disabled
  • Power Management - Idle Power Savings: from Extended to Normal
  • https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04947950 I added
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NDIS\Parameters
    DWORD (32-bit) "AllowWakeFromS5"=1 to the OS-Registry

Power > Hardware Power Management > S5 Maximum Power Savings" is Disabled by default and should be this setting (see Maintenance Guide ERF Option)

What can I do to have the LAN ports enabled all the time?
