Hi all,

I've inherited HP Device Manager v 5.0.3610 and I've been working through how it's currently setup but there seem to be a lot of discrepancies on what device manager is telling me and what the actual situation is such as about 30 of the 200 Thin Clients show there is a pending task but there is no pending task in the Task History or it states the Write Filter is off but it's actually on at the Thin Client or it says machines are offline when they are on etc (same network) and we have 3 different device categories (Win10ioT-64, Windows 64 and Undefined) when they're all the same machines so is there a way i can sort of clear everything off device manager so that i can do a fresh discovery and it pull in up to date information from all the Thin Clients as though it was a fresh install ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @AlwaysBestToAsk,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To reset HP Device Manager for your Thin Clients and start fresh, you can follow these general steps.

  • Backup Configuration (Optional): Before proceeding with any major changes, it's always a good idea to back up your current configuration. This ensures that you have a copy of your settings in case anything goes wrong during the reset process.
  • Uninstall HP Device Manager: Begin by uninstalling the existing HP Device Manager software from your server or workstation. This will remove all existing configurations and databases associated with the current installation.
  • Clean Up Configuration Files: After uninstalling the HP Device Manager software, make sure to delete any leftover configuration files or directories related to the previous installation. This step ensures that there are no remnants of the old configuration that could potentially interfere with the fresh installation.
  • Install HP Device Manager: Once you've removed the old installation and cleaned up any remaining files, proceed to install HP Device Manager again. You can download the latest version from the official HP website or use the installation files you already have.
  • Perform Fresh Discovery: After installing HP Device Manager, initiate a fresh discovery process to rediscover all your Thin Clients on the network. This process should automatically detect and add the Thin Clients to the management console with up-to-date information.
  • Configure Settings: Once the Thin Clients have been rediscovered, you can configure any necessary settings or policies within HP Device Manager according to your requirements. This may include setting up device categories, defining tasks, enabling write filters, etc.
  • Monitor and Verify: After configuring the settings, monitor the Thin Clients through HP Device Manager to ensure that the information displayed is accurate and reflects the actual status of the devices on your network.
  • Regular Maintenance: Going forward, it's essential to regularly maintain and update your HP Device Manager installation to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This includes applying software updates, reviewing configurations, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

By following these steps, you can reset HP Device Manager for your Thin Clients and start fresh with a clean installation. Remember to proceed with caution and ensure that you have proper backups in place before making any significant changes to your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
