HP ProDesk 600 G1 Base Model Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello

I have a new to me HP ProDesk 600 G1 Base Model Small Form Factor PC that has an Intel Core i5-4590 CPU

I've installed an SSD as the system drive with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 64 bit.

In the device manager the "SM Bus Controller" has an error stating  "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" "There are no compatible drivers for this device." - Clicking search automatically for drivers results in none being available.

I downloaded the chipset driver from the HP website for my ProDesk "sp64085.exe" but this failed to install

I went to the Intel website for their chipset utility driver but they do not have a version for Windows 8.1

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29634/Chipset-INF-Utility?product=53

Does any one have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

See if this one works...

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp101001-101500/sp101367.exe

The above driver is a newer W8.1 version of the chipset driver for the Intel series 8 chipset your PC comes with.

I've zipped up and attached the driver release notes below...

make sure the Intel Management Engine Driver 11.7.0.1045 Rev.A has been installed

you may be trying to install the wrong chipset package, IE- the 32 bit package instead of the 64bit one or one for windows 8 instead of the one which includes support for 8.0/8.1

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-prodesk-600-g1-small-form-factor-pc/5387447

you want the 64bit version of chipset package 9.4.0.1027 Rev.A called sp64085.exe (which you have done in this case)

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64085.exe

once downloaded, go into device manager and REMOVE the existing SM device and also select remove associated driver files

now leave these windows open, and run the sp64085 file, it should run and complete without errors if so close all open windows and reboot

if you get a error when you run the sp64085 file note where it extracts to, cancel the install then go to the SM device and select update driver (have disk), and point it to the sp64085 \all folder it should pickup the needed inf's and install then

You're very welcome.

Yes, the sleep function won't work unless/until the SMBus Controller device gets installed.
