Hi, so I have an HP xw8600 works station with the following specifications:
- Intel Xeon X5260 CPU with 3.33 GHz
- 16 GB of RAM
- Nvidia gt 1030 GPU (I changed to this GPU but the PC originaly came with a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700)
The problem tha I have right now is that I can't hear certain programs, for exaple, I can't hear the videogames that I play, but I can hear some other things like movies and tv shows on Netflix, and I think all of this is because of my GPU, but I've been traying to solve this in every way posible and I cannot find any solutions, so please if you know any, help me.
Also, when I watch videos in Youtube it goes well but eventualy it goes slower and I stop hearing them. O and I forgot to tell that the games I play run good, it's just the sound the only thing that dosen't work, but if I use the Nvidia Quadro FX 1700 tha the PC came with, the sound works and everything works good.

LuciusH3,
The GT 1030 has a DVI video and an HDMI video/sound connection and there are limited possible settings, so the problem is likely to be a quite straightforward connection or setting.
It would help if the connection is described- is the sound cable to the GT 1030 connected, and to know the settings in Device Manager under sound. What is used for listening; speakers or headphones and are those connected to to the audio outputs of the xw8600.?
If the system is used for gaming, streaming and watching movies, the sound quality is important. Something to consider is to find a good add-in soundcard and powered speakers. In the office is a 2007 Dell Precision 390- probably similar in age to the xw8600- with an PCI - not PCIe Audigy 2ZS soundcard which goes out to Logitech 533 2.1 powered speakers- this has a handy wired remote- and the sound is quite good for a reasonable cost.

Hi, so I been reading this and the port I'm using is the HDMI, which is connected to my monitor Acer V193w throug an adapter (HDMI to Vga), the thing is, in my audio configuration says that the sound is coming out througt the monitor (maybe because of the adapter), but my monitor does not have speakers and I use headphones to hear, wicht are conected to the adapter and I was thinking that maybe the adapter is the problem, but again, I'm not sure about that cuz I already tried changin it, and it didn't change the problem.
Maybe I have to buy a new monitor?
What I realy want to know if it can or cannot be a software problem.
Thanks

LuciusH3,
The problem is hardware related and might also be a software setting. HDMI carries both the images and sound, but the VGA connection on the monitor carries only the image and is also restricted as to resolution and bandwidth; the amount of information that can pass through per second.
The HP xw8600 has a build sound: Realtek ALC262 Audio and there are audio connections on the back panel - small pink, green, and blue sockets and on the front panel. The small green one is stereo that can ouput through a mini stereo jack to a pair of powered speakers. The simplest solution would be to connect the headphones to the front panel headphone jack where you will see a tiny headphone icon above the tiny microphone icon. That may just simply work when plugged into the fornt panel headphone jack or there may be a setting required in Control Panel > Device Manager > Sound. Devie Manager may also have an icon called "Realtek Audio Manager". Go through the selections until there is sound from the selected connection. There are also headphones and speakers that will connect through a USB port front or back. I've always liked to have powered speakers - rather than headphones -on either side of the monitor that connect to a an internal soundcard or external USB interface to have good quality sound, but the onboard Realtek sound can be good.
The GT 1030 is a reasonable, general use graphics card but the Acer V193W is a quite old design- VGA only and sort of a square format of 1440 X 900. If you're gaming, look into something that is, say, 1920 X 1080- 22" or 24". and connects with at least DVI.

it's been years since i've worked on thes but i do remember this problem with some later video cards,
first uninstall the current nvidia driver, reinstall and select manual install, then just install the video and physX drivers uncheck the others (not needed for your hardware config)
now reboot. and go into the BIOS by pressing F10 when the system starts, then go to "Security --> Device Security" and check "System Audio" it's most likely unchecked, if so check the box and save settings the nvidia card has onboard audio which you are not using and the xw8600 bios detected this and disable the onboard audio
