HP Proliant DL180 G6 & HP Smart Array P410
Other

Hey everyone,

I have a question regarding the HP Smart Array P410 that's comes shipped in the HP Proliant DL 180 G6. It is stated in the specs that it can handle 8 sata disks, but the case itself has twelve hotswap bays. Both the raid controller and FreeNAS (a linux distribution) can see and use all twelve disks. Thus my question is: What does the 8x sata mean then?

Kind regards,

S.

the p410 has only 8 drive ports on it (8x), in order to use the other 4 bays you will need the upgraded card that has more ports on the card,  or add another sata card, or a port replacator/expander card

if you check the  quick specs for this model server, you will see in the specs the stock 8 port card and the upgraded (optional) card
