Hi I have a 2019 HP Stream computer model 14-cb163wm that will not leave the boot device/ operating system’s screen. It’s been like this for a while and I’ve tried everything. It doesnt leave that screen and it’s very annoying. If anyone can help me that would be great

Hi @Mgroves1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must feel to stare at that boot device screen over and over, especially when you just want your HP Stream to start up and get things done. Let’s work through this together and bring your PC back to life.

The issue you’re describing usually means the system can’t find a valid operating system or boot device. Here are the recommended steps to fix this:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off your computer completely.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any external devices (USB drives, SD cards).
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter and try powering on again.

Step 2: Check Boot Order in BIOS

  1. Turn on your PC and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Navigate to System Configuration > Boot Options.
  3. Ensure your internal hard drive (or eMMC storage) is listed first in the boot order.
  4. Press F10 to save and exit.

Step 3: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Restart and press Esc, then F2 for System Diagnostics.
  2. Run the Hard Drive Test and Memory Test
    • If the hard drive fails, it may need replacement.
    • If it passes, proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Repair or Reinstall Windows

If diagnostics pass but the OS is missing or corrupted:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
