T620 Thin Client

Hello everyone.

I couldn't find the documentation I needed. I have a T620 Thin Client.

1. Can I replace the original 16GB SSD with another one? Is it SATA or NVME?

2. There's an empty slot for a Wi-Fi card. Is there a list of supported cards?

3. There's an empty RAM slot. Will any similar RAM work as in slot 1?

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs for the model series:

t620.pdf

Looks like you can upgrade the memory up to 2 x 8 GB of DDR3L1600.

HP offered mSATA drives up to 64 GB in the model series.

NVMe SSD's are not supported.

They aren't even supported in the T630's.

I installed a 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD in my T630 and it worked fine.

Here's the link to the service guide:

Hardware Reference Guide

Does your notebook have the required antenna wires needed for the HMC Wi-Fi card slot?

The parts list for this model indicates it can use this Intel Wi-Fi card part number:

HP PartSurfer

K5D20AV
Intel 802.11ac DB Wi-Fi/BT Combo NIC

This is the part number you would look for:

798575-001
WLAN 802.11ac internal 7260NV HMC module

I think it would be best if you just use a dual band USB Wi-Fi adapter, because finding that part number will be extremely difficult and you can't just install any model Wi-Fi card you want or they won't work.

a helpful thin client site, the HP T620 can take more ram than HP tested it for as i recall it should support 32GB (2 x 16GB)

Early production systems were built with both a mSATA socket and a M.2 socket to facilitate a transition from one form factor to the other during the product's production life. The mSATA socket was subsequently removed from production at the end of 2014; but the mSATA socket can be resoldered back in if desired

For anyone looking for a similar answer:

1. SSD - any SATAIII M2 will do. I bought the cheapest Silicon Power A55 128GB M.2 2280 SATAIII 3D NAND TLC (SP128GBSS3A55M28) - everything works.

2. RAM - DDR3L 1600 1.35v - up to 16GB should work (I installed 2x4GB)
3. Wi-Fi card - to test it, I took the first available module from an ASUS laptop, and it WORKS. It was immediately detected by the system and there were no errors. At least, that's the case with my thin client. True, in the BIOS I disabled any possible security checks and the TPM module. I ordered a pair of antennas and an HP Broadcom BCM94З228HMB BT 4.0 a/b/g/n Card (PN 666914-001) from Aliexpress - i've seen a lot of similar cards online and on eBay installed on the T620. We'll see how it goes, thanks everyone for your help!
