thank you for the confirmation on this ASM2824 chip also being compatible in HP z820 workstations
i suspect they will also work in the earlier z800/z400 systems as a data only drive
as the earlier z800/z400/z600 does not have a EFI bios (only legacy) you will not be able to boot from these devices
to use a nvme drive as a boot device on these earlier non EFI based workstations you will need to use DUET + REFIND which is a software based loader that bootstraps the missing nvme bios code

I also have a liquid-cooled HP Z800 e (x5690). If you'd like, I can do some testing on the Z800 when I have some free time.
For some reason (off topic) I don't want to get rid of the Z800 because of its liquid cooling system.
I wish I had a house with a garden and a workshop...😔

let me know if you want to test hardware on the z800 (or z820) and i can attach the duet/refind 2015 ver which i have confirmed works with the z800 just send me a "PM"
i do have custom win 10/11 iso install images for the z820 that include the necessary drivers/current security updates

I'd take DGroves up on his generous offers. I have, and with excellent outcomes.
Regarding use of the PLEX cards in a Z800... those quick experiments are always interesting to hear the results of. Don't forget that family of workstations is a bit crippled by technology. They only run SATA II (not SATA III) and they have no PCIe Generation 3 slots (only PCIe Gen2).
You'd always want to run your PLEX card in a PCIe Gen3 slot in the Z820 generation, also, because those provide twice the bandwidth of Gen2.

I guess we are not authorized to send private messages. Maybe it's because I'm a new member. Authorization may also be passive for people who have not reached a certain level in the community. In summary, I could not find a way to send a private message.
Peace be with you.
