Hi People,
Working towards purchasing a Z6 or Z8 but unable to locate a Thunderbolt 3 (or even 2) card for the workstations. I have been informed that HP are not configuring these workstartions with this port. True?
Regards
Andrew

the HP driver site for the Z6 contains the nessary intel Thunderbolt drivers, and i have read that the gigabyte alpine ridge based Thunderbolt card works in the Z6
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Thunderbolt-Components-GC-ALPINE-RIDGE/dp/B0722SV69N
note also that if you have a TB 3 based card, and want to use a TB2 based device, you may need a adapter , so keep this in mind!

the gigabyte card is a (alpine ridge card) which itself is compatable, however gigabyte uses a diffrent pinout on their thunderbolt motherboard header that is not the same as the HP pinout most likely
if you wish to use the gigabyte card on a HP system you will need the HP cable instead of the gigabyte one, or make your own which might be hard if hp has not documented the TBollt header on the z8/z4 workstations
the "thunderbolt card's" header is the same for HP/Dell/gigabyte/Asus since they all use the intel thunderboard reference (alpine ridge) design it's the motherboard pin connections that differ, the signals are the same, just on diffrent pin locations.
the original HP TBolt 2 card is marked F3F43AT and is a reference intel design card
the newer HP TBolt 3 card is also a reference intel design card (alpine ridge)
in fact, i've yet to see a custom TBolt card for the PC, everything has been based on the intel card(s) with only the tbolt connector's pinout on each makers motherboard being diffrent. most newer intel chipsets based on the x99 or newer
support thunderbolt, but it's up to the MB maker if they wish to enable TBolt support via the MB header/pci-e card, or intergrated directly into the motherboard (no card needed)
last, i don't know if hp has even released their TBolt card for the z4/z8 systems yet (it' s set for fst quarter 2018)
