remove power cord from computer

press power button on computer till beeping/pwr on light is off (takes approx. 10-15 seconds)

install computer part (hard drive in this case)

reattach power cord, and power on system

hard drive may need to be partitioned and formatted

HDD is in another PC, and has data written on it. So is the same process steps to remove the HDD and insert the HDD into another PC correct?

reread what i posted, it applies to all systems that wish to add or remove storage devices

if you ware moving a used drive from another system then repartitioning/formatting it is normally a recommended procedure

I will replace the HDD soon,…

Do you mean bootable HDD or SSD is recommended to format… when migrate them … ?

In another old PC have 1TB HDD not SSD, with 2 x OS = dual boot Windows 10 home, Windows 11 home… and this will be given away or sell it… In this other case, is recommended copy & back up data only, and format it after migrate it… ?

I can use it also externally with a USB external HDD case…?

Here are some answers:

1. To migrate a SSD or a HDD I always choose to clean, then GPT partition it, then NTFS format it first. Attached is a PDF document on how to use the built in Microsoft utility DiskPart to do that. I pretty much now always choose GPT partitioning rather than MBR... GPT is more capable, better technology, and works with UEFI better. Once you have used DiskPart to clean and partition you then use the defaults provided in Disk Management (also built into the operating system) to NTFS format the SSD or HDD drive.

2.In your dual boot old drive's case I'd just copy out the data you want to keep and then use DiskPart to clean/GPT partition and then NTFS format it so it is fresh and ready to give away or sell. In the case of a bootable drive it is best to do the process in a computer that is not being booted from the drive. Look at the drive number(s) in Disk Management and note the drive sizes carefully so you truly understand which drive to clean/partition/format because you can't go back if you make a mistake.

while i don't mind helping people on this forum i do take issue with posts that seem to ask questions that the poster in my opinion could have answered themselves and i think this last post is one such

you really need a answer to this question?

I also get frustrated with being someone else's Wiki. However, I remember a professor who said... "Don't overestimate your audience".  😉
