Hi! I was gifted a Z420 E5-1650 Work station 3.2Ghz 6-Core. It was without drives, but was previously used with a RAID 5 setup.
I installed my Windows 10-64bit SSD and a 1Tb Data Drive. The issue is it boots up great, but I cannot see the secondary data drive. I have tried using different SATA ports, but none of them recognize any secondary drive I put in. I'm assuming the hardware RAID is still configured, and I am trying to disable it so I can read other drives besides my boot drive. Can anyone please help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.!!!

please download the Intel RSTe driver from the HP z420 site this package (sp98397) includes the necessary intel "SCU" driver which is required for activating the 4 "SCU" sata ports located next to the two grey normal sata ports
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03277050
also, make sure the bios is configured to RAID+AHCI, this is the correct setting and should be used
last if the previous user had raid 5 then there most likely was/is a pci-e raid card installed if so you can remove it if not using raid

Thank you so much for your reply. I got the BIOS settings done as you suggested, but I never downloaded the driver, but instead connected my second and third drives into the black SATA ports. My boot drive is an SSD plugged into a grey SATA port.
You said: "last if the previous user had raid 5 then there most likely was/is a pci-e raid card installed if so you can remove it if not using raid"
My reply: The previous owner did not use a PCIe RAID card in this system. It must be built-in, perhaps.
I wasn't sure about the driver, so I never downloaded it. I had read somewhere (I think it was on this site) not to use anything newer than version 4.5 as it could cause problems.
My only question I have left, is can the 4 white SCU SATA ports ever be used to connect a data drive, or or they for RAID only? If they can, is that something that only the driver can fix?
Thank you for your assistance. It was greatly appreciated.
