HP Z600 Base Model Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm looking to see if I have the latest bios update for my HP Z600 Workstation. I had updated the bios a number of years ago when I updated to Windows 10 per HP Supports help and assurance that Windows 10 would work find. With their new website, it does not recognize this software and says it is not supported on my workstation. Is there a way to get around this issue on their website. Obviously my workstation is no longer in warranty.

Hello @Rocketman73

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.

The "latest" bios version is 3.61 Rev.A ( Mar 6, 2018 )

(1) Run    msinfo32

- Select <System Summary>:

BIOS Version/Date

HP never sold or officially supported the z600 with windows 10 as such you will not see any updates

even though HP has no official z600 windows 10 support, many many people are successfully running windows 10 and 11 on this system

simply select a OS that HP did support such as windows 7 or 8 64bit and you will then see all available bios updates

doing so shows that  v3.61 Rev A from march 6th 2018 is the latest (sp84160)

Thank you for the reply Ub6424.

I forgot to mention that my bios version is v03.57 7/15/2013. I already had checked that. I had first bought this refurbished system with Windows Pro 8 installed and with the help of HP had installed Windows Pro 10. No one ever said that Windows 10 would not be supported on this workstation. I have had very little issues up till now. About 2 months ago my laser mouse started acting flakey. So I switched to a USB on the front of the machine. Still issues. Changed to another mouse and that seemed to fix the issue for awhile. Now it is happening again. What are the odds of having 2 bad USB ports at different locations on the computer. I naturally assumed it may be something related to software.  Updated the mouse driver. By the way, these were two different style mice. One was Logitech, the other an older Microsoft mouse. Thought I would check the bios and see what was available on HPs site. That is when I found out Windows 10 was not supported on this workstation. I attempted to download via an earlier version of Windows, 8 I believe and that said no updates were available. I installed a USB 2.0 7 port hub yesterday and it appears to have solved the situation but only time will tell. Thanks again for your reply.

Hello @Rocketman73

Thanks for the reply.

The Bios is independent of the operating system. The "preparation" of the Bios update within Windows depends on the operating system. It would therefore be advisable to perform the update outside of Windows with a Bios USB flash drive.

Use "another" Windows computer to create a Bios <USB flash drive> using one of the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit / 64-bit
Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit
Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit / 64-bit

See:

HP Consumer Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS (Windows)

See section <Updating the BIOS manually from a USB Flash drive (outside of Windows)>
