in my z840 I installed an ASUS Hyper M.2 with 4 WD Black 1TB SSD's. I can see them and set up a raid in windows but I want to set it up in the LSI utility so I can boot from the raid O. I get into the LSI utility and see that the PCI slot says FF and is not recognised. What settings are needed to be changed? I have the PDF from Hp on setting up a raid but nothing in there for this issue. I have the card on slot 6 and it's set to 4x4x4 New at this so any help is greatly appreciatrd!!!

ok, we need to have you understand some basic things on z840 raid with the asus m,2 card being unsupported as a boot device
HP allowed use of up to 4 HP turbo Z G2 m.2 cards in a z840 but only supported a single bootable drive configuration using dual/quad G2 cards with the z840
1. all raided drives must reside on the same controller that will be used for raid
2. a pci-e M.2 card that plugs into a pci-e slot can be smart (onboard GUI/CLI menu for drive setup) or a totally dumb PCI-E card that has no onboard GUI for configuring attached drives and depends on either a pure software based raid setup (non booting)
or a quasi motherboard bios based software/firmware which is usually the Intel VROC based method
however the z840 does not support VROC so there is no way to get your asus card to boot even though the z840 does support bifurcation of a x16 slot into four pci-e x4 lanes
bottom line to boot your z840 without using the asus m.2 card
you will need a different PCI-E HARDWARE based Raid capable card that has SSD support which is still rather expensive, the item below will do what you want
HighPoint SSD7105
i recommend you look at the adaptec ASR-88105 / 81605 SAS/SATA card, it's capable of raid/Jbod with FULL SSD/Raid 5/10 SUPPORT at the same time and has all of the features of the z840's onboard SAS/SATA Raid/JBOD controller which can't really do raid 5 with any sort of speed and has no SSD support
if you do go this route you will also need the correct "FORWARD" SFF-8643 cable(s) you can also get male to male sas/sata adapters so the card can connect to the 4 internal hotswap drive bays
look on ebay they have come way down in price
