HP Elitebook 840 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Problem:

Windows 10 Update fails with: "We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

Same problem as here:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Uninstall-HP-PC-Ha...

Affected Devices:

HP Elitebook 840 G4

HP Elitebook 840 G3

Solution:

Removing of: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI

https://www8.hp.com/de/de/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html

I found nowhere a solution to remove the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. It is not listet in Windows Apps list or in C\Programs\. I need a solution very fast as the windows version is already at end of support because major updates constantly failing with the error described above.

I found a solution to free up space in the EFI partition:

- First I started an command line window with admin rights.

- Then I mounted the EFI partition: mountvol x: /s

- Then I deleted the logs of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics in x:\EFI\HP\SystemDiags with "rd /s x:\EFI\HP\SystemDiags"

Afterwards the Windows Update was possible.
