HP ProDesk 400 G6 Small Form Factor PC IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I was just wanting to upgrade the stock cpu fan/heatsink on the HP ProDesk 400 G6 Small Form Factor (6EF22AV).

Does anybody know if the 810281-001 will fit in the case and if not please suggest an alternative. the current fan I have is the stock 908998-001 and it is so loud when it ramps up, I have upgraded the cpu to an i7-9700 and given the heatsink a good clean but still goes crazy as soon as there is any load. from my measurements I have about 7.5cm between the board and the top of the case

Thanks in advance 🙂

the ProDesk 400 G6  system is available in 3 different models (DM/SFF/Minitower) it seems,  from the very compact DM system using CUSTOM parts   to a mini tower model  that might have a alternate cooler upgrade

if the existing heatsink in your system is a round aluminum one with 4 mounting screws that has a fan on top, then it may be possible to upgrade it to a better one

i think you need a LOW PROFILE LGA 1150 1151 1155 1156 compatible cooler

the stock HP i3/i5 cooler on your SFF system was all aluminum i think?

if so there was a upgraded aluminum/copper one that should work with your 65watt i7-9700 cpu

Intel E97378-001 Lga1155/1156 Aluminum/Copper Cpu Heatsink

Hi,

The version I have is the SFF so it's a low-profile case. My current heatsink is the round one with the mounting screws as you described but I have seen online if I want to swap it out for another cooler, I will need to remove the motherboard and flatten the risers on the chassis (which I can do if needed), it's just not ideal.

I've ordered an 80mm fan and will give that a go to start and if needed I will swap put the whole cooler.

Thanks for your reply

the cooler i linked to is direct bolt in replacement, no modifications to the case's cpu cooler mounts is required to mount this cooler

other cpu coolers may require a metal backplate to be placed on the bottom of the motherboard's cpu mounting holes due to their cpu cooling mounting method if this is so then yes you might need to remove the existing HP cpu cooler mounts
