HP Z240 Tower Workstation with NVIDIA Quadro P1000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

When I check system info, I see that NVIDIA adapter type says NVIDIA compatible. I see no evidence of any nvidia drivers or software being installed. Also, the renderer on one of the graphic packages complains that "mercury gpu acceleration using CUDA could not be located. an nvidia gpu was detected, but rendering with cuda requires nvidia driver version 396 or later.

Is there any recommendations against an upgrade to default nvidia drivers installed out of the box for Z240?

Anyone has a clear instructions to point me to?

In specific, the latest driver for this machine per HP site: 391.74 Rev.A

Should I dare to upgrade from NVIDIA direct?

Thanks,

Nick

Nick001,

Firstly, Quadro P1000 features and specifications:

http://www.pny.com/nvidia-quadro-p1000

The original post was not entirely clear if the Quadro P1000 was the originally supplied GPU or added, but it's possible that at some point Windows installed a sort of generic driver or there si a conflict with an older version of the driver or a driver from another GPU..

Consider going to nvidia.com > DRIVERS > ALL NVIDIA DRVIERS > Product Type: =Quadro >  Product Series: = Quadro Series > Product = P1000 > Operating System: = whatever your current OS version is > Download Type: = Optimal Driver for Enterprise (ODE)  > SEARCH

The result will be Version R418 U3 (419.67) WHQL:

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/145258/en-us

Note that the driver version 418 is later the required 396. Download the 350.46MB file.  Right click on the file to "Install as administrator".  Importantly, check "Perform clean Installation" which will remove all remnants of other drivers.

Let us know what happens.

Do you have Nvidia control panel app installed? Check to see if it is there...

Download and run AIDA64 app...and on DISPLAY-->Windows Video section...you will need to see the driver version....this way you are making sure you have them installed or not...

Its true they might be windows generic drivers installed....so looking for the driver on the Nvidia site....downloading and installing it its the best thing you can do to make sure you are all up to date!

Hi BambiBoomZ,

The machine came with p1000 installed but I saw no evidence of any NVIDIA software on my machine.

I followed your suggestion and installed the software. It is now installed and I have had no issues so far.

Also, I registered my machine with HP support.

The 419.17 Rev.A version is available under the support page for my machine.

Thanks for your help.
