HP Z440 Workstation

I have a Z440 with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1630 v3 @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz with 64 gigs of Ram. Using for audio production :  I'm looking to upgrade the CPU. My hopes are to speed up the processing of multiple audio tracks. Faster execution. What CPU would assist with this ?

@353855,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Objectively, the best performing processors for your HP Z440 Workstation (K5Y83UP), judged from a performance results perspective found amongst more than 4,500 HP Z440 Workstation Users here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-Z440-Workstation/10597, are these two processors:

1.) Intel Core i7-6850K (3.60 to 4.00 GHz, 6-Cores, 12-Threads, 140-watt TDP), which can be purchased for $56 (08/01/23) and up via eBay, such as this purchase example: EXC Intel Core i7-6850K SR2PC 3.60GHZ 6 Core LGA2011-3 Desktop Processor CPU LOT | eBay.

2.) Intel Xeon E5-1650 v4 (3.60 to 4.00 GHz, 6-Cores, 12-Threads, 140-watt TDP), which can be purchased for $20 (08/01/23) and up via eBay, such as this purchase example: Intel Xeon E5-1650 V4 3.60GHz 6 Core (SR2P7) Processor 691821277902 | eBay.

Looking at these processors from a 'value-for-money' angle, the Intel Xeon E5-1650 v4 overall scores best -and can be purchased for pennies to the dollar.

also, if not using a SSD, get one it will deliver a major overall speed/response increase

@353855,

@DGroves is absolutely correct.  However, I would recommend not just a SATA SSD for speed, but an M.2 NVMe SSD for even faster I/O speeds, by using a PCIe x4 to M.2 NVMe SSD adapter, such as this purchase example: Amazon.com: GLOTRENDS M.2 PCIe NVMe 4.0/3.0 Adapter with 0.12 Inch Thick M.2 Heatsink for M.2 PCIe S....

Here is an HP Z440 User who did just that: HP Z440 Workstation Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

Here is a useful how-to YouTube video: HP Z440 Gaming Computer (GTX 1080 Ti and NVME.2 Install) - YouTube.
