HP Slim Desktop PC S01-pF1000i (8SP30AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I'm getting heaps of warnings in Event Viewer both in Security folder(fills 20mb every 3 days) and System folder with Whea-Logger ID 17 one or more every minute. Does Kernel Event tracing suggest it's a hardware issue? Can you provide some help, thanks Steve c

Did this problem show up recently such as after a Microsoft update?  Did you select the option to update recommended drivers.  Not all drivers recommended by Microsoft are good.  Some drivers, especially network , graphics , were released by the manufacturer but do not have the custom code for the HP system.

All the drivers for your system are here

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-slim-desktop-pc-s01-pf1000i/32482421/model/21000...

select the correct OS and verify you have the latest BIOS and drivers.  Run MSINFO32.EXE for help

I suspect the network / Wi-Fi has wrong driver after googling for event 17.

Use the device manager to disable Wi-Fi and go to the event viewer and clear all the logs.  Use the system for a few minutes and then check the event viewer for more event 17 errors..  Alternately, do a clean boot as discussed here

Be sure to delete the event logs to make it easy to spot additional event 17 errors.

If no more errors after the clean boot (or disabling wifi) then try replacing the drivers from that list above.

If you use the Search field at the top of this website page to 'Search all content', and fill in the string: WHEA-Logger , then you will reach a list of several posts in HP forums, describing very similar occurrances of frequent Event Viewer warnings on Event ID 17. One of those posts in particular claims to have reached a solution: see URL: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Desktops/Constant-WHEA-Logger-Warnings-Event-ID-17/m-p/8191174#... Still, take a look at the other posts on the same subject, as one of them may fit your issue.

Hi Joselso, I tried this fix a week or two back unfortunately no joy. Thanks for your help

Hi BeemerBiker, Thanks for your time. I have recently updated to 21H2 but after these issues began. The HP site for drivers is where I get all my drivers, updated again today. msinfo32 shows a couple of lines in Conflicts/sharing

Justa2_0-1650510737113.png

I'm unsure if these are actual conflicts or just shared resources. Interesting you suggest WIFI as a potential problem, I came across a discussion where it was postulated that the conflict was related to having a WiFi connection while the the PC looked for a LAN connection causing conflicts. Disabling WiFi did nothing to reduce the WHEA logger 17 entries. Device Manager shows no yellow dots anywhere. HP diagnostics shows no issues left it running overnight. I will try a clean boot technique next. Here's something unusual if I go into Safe Mode the number of error 17s goes to between 10 and 30 per second for short periods intermixed with ERROR DistributedCOM. It maybe time to reinstall Windows although there are users suggesting the problem was still there or back within a few days. Justa

What hardware is defined by this?     Primary Bus:Device:Function 0x1:0x0:0x0

Thanks again for the help

That shows a problem with your hard drive (ssd)

https://devicehunt.com/view/type/pci/vendor/15B7/device/5006

Either the drive itself or the controller has a problem with the drive.  If a controller problem then try installing the chipset drivers.

Try the free hard drive sentinel app.   It can confirm problems with controller as well as drive.

Get serial or model # from the drive and look for firmware update form the manufacturer.  Also check the 1 star reviews for the drive on amazon.

Hi BeemerBiker, Thanks again for your help

I have updated my chip set drivers and installed sentinel which by the way showed no errors, perfect in fact. I did get a hard drive error upon rebooting. The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

My computer is still under extended warranty and I suspect they will be replacing it again. I'm expecting a call back from HP help on Wednesday 27-4 I'm guessing it will be back to the shop for repairs.
No luck trying to find much negative feed back on amazon

yes, looks like a repair

Hard Disk Sentinel can take a long time to do its tests which makes windows slow to load.  I have it disabled in the windows task manager startup and once or so a month I simply run it from the windows search bar and look at temperature history and the S.M.A.R.T summery.  It can also handle drives in external USB cases including docks.

Hi Beemer Biker, One more question if I may, if Primary Bus 0x1 indicates a hard drive / controller what does Primary Bus 0x3 tell me? I'm now seen occasional WHEA logger errors with PB 0x3. Once again thankyou so much for your help, Justa
