Creating a USB BIOS recovery drive for an HP Z8 G4 workstation involves using the appropriate software and following a specific process. It's important to ensure you have the correct BIOS version and recovery files before proceeding. Here are the general steps to create a USB BIOS recovery drive for an HP Z8 G4:

  1. Obtain the BIOS Recovery files:

    • Visit the official HP support website (https://support.hp.com/).
    • Enter your HP Z8 G4 workstation model number and locate the BIOS downloads section.
    • Download the latest BIOS firmware and the corresponding BIOS Recovery utility for your workstation.
  2. Prepare a USB flash drive:

    • Choose a USB flash drive with enough capacity (at least 2GB) to store the BIOS Recovery files.
    • Format the USB drive to FAT32 to ensure compatibility.
  3. Extract BIOS Recovery files:

    • After downloading the BIOS Recovery utility, extract the contents from the downloaded file to a folder on your computer.
  4. Copy files to the USB flash drive:

    • Open the folder where you extracted the BIOS Recovery files.
    • Copy all the files from this folder to the root directory of the USB flash drive.
  5. Rename the BIOS file:

    • Look for the BIOS firmware file you downloaded earlier (e.g., "spXXXXX.exe" or "XXXXX.bin").
    • Rename this file to "BIOS_IMG.rcv" (without the quotes) and copy it to the root directory of the USB flash drive.
  6. Safely eject the USB flash drive:

    • Ensure all files have been copied correctly to the USB flash drive.
    • Eject the USB flash drive from your computer safely.
  7. Perform the BIOS recovery:

    • Power off your HP Z8 G4 workstation.
    • Insert the USB flash drive into one of the available USB ports on the workstation.
    • Power on the workstation while repeatedly pressing the "Windows + B" keys together (on some HP models, it may be "Win + V" instead of "Win + B") until the BIOS Recovery screen appears.
  8. Follow on-screen instructions:

    • The BIOS Recovery utility should automatically detect the BIOS image on the USB drive.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the recovery process. This may take a few minutes, and the system may reboot multiple times during the process.
  9. Complete the process:

    • Once the BIOS recovery process is complete, the system should boot into the recovered BIOS version.

Please note that BIOS recovery is a delicate process, and any interruption or mistake during the procedure can cause serious issues with your workstation. Ensure that you have the correct files and follow the instructions carefully. If you are uncertain or uncomfortable with performing this task, it's recommended to seek assistance from an authorized HP service provider or technical support.

Hope this was helpful.
