I need a power supply for my HP Prodesk G6 400, i want to be able to add a gpu. I only have a 180watt psu now, and i have the intel i5 9500. So I need a psu for gpus that ate like 60€, so like 500watt or 400watt psu. What psu can i get? And what gpu with it, that can run rdr2, fortnite, roblox and lethal company and maybe other games. Please someone help!

@Nipanorsu,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Unfortunately, HP does not provide any information regarding meaningful power supply upgrade possibilities for an HP ProDesk 400 G6 MT.

The 500-watt power supply upgrades I am going to share with you should be compatible with your PC, but I cannot completely guarantee it.

I hope you understand.

The part numbers for this 500-watt power supply are: 901759-013, L77487-003 or L89233-001.

The dimensions of these power supplies are: length 165 mm, width 72 mm, height 94 mm.

Kind Regards,

@Nipanorsu,

And lest I forget: for 1080p gaming at high settings in RDR2, Fortnite, Roblox, and Lethal Company, the minimum viable GPU would be:

Minimum GPU Recommendation:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (12GB)

  • Good balance of price and performance
  • Runs RDR2 at 60+ FPS on high settings in 1080p
  • Handles Fortnite, Roblox, and Lethal Company at well over 100+ FPS
  • Power Requirement: ~170W (fits within a 500-watt PSU)

Alternative Budget Option (~€60-100, Used Market):

NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super (6GB)

  • Can run RDR2 at ~50 FPS (high settings, 1080p)
  • Power Requirement: ~125W (easier on a 500-watt PSU)

PSU Compatibility Check:

Since you want to upgrade from 180-watt to a 500-watt HP PSU (901759-013, etc.), you need to ensure:

  • Form factor compatibility: HP ProDesk 400 G6 MT should fit the 165 x 72 x 94 mm PSU without issues.

Thank you!

But can I upgrade a PSU thats NOT hp? Like are they combatiple with my motherboard? Im thinking that the 500w not HP power supplys would be cheaper than the HP power supplies.

@Nipanorsu,

Your HP ProDesk 400 G6 MT only accepts HP proprietary power supplies, and unfortunately not industry standard ATX power supplies.

Why does it, what is different? And can I just use adapters?

HP Recommended

@Nipanorsu,

The HP ProDesk 400 G6 MT cannot be powered by a standard 24-pin ATX power supply because it has different power connectors which is why only HP proprietary power supplies can power it.

There are no ATX power supply adapters available for your PC.

Why is it so?  -It is so because that is how HP decided to build most of their consumer desktops.
