I have a HP 406 Microtower Business PC and it is preinstalled with Windows 10 64 bit Operating System. But I was willing to upgrade it to Windows 11 as the notification was out by Windows Officially that by Oct 14, 2024 and then after no official updates will by provided. So if the update would no longer be released then a time would come that the PC would not support for the new applications. When I was trying to upgrade my PC , I checked out the minimum requirements to upgrade to Windows 11. The thing was all the requirements were fulfilled except of one that is the processor that is required is 8th Gen Intel processor but my PC has 6th Gen Processor. The Question is that possible that if I could replace my existing PC's Processor with the 8th Gen Processor. Would it Compatible for my PC ? Please Help me with this issues

you cannot install a 8th gen cpu in a 6th gen system

your choices are as follows:

1. do nothing, stay on win 10 for the next year and then replace the system

2. replace the system now

3. google how to modify the win 10 to 11 installer or a clean win 11 install to bypass the hardware requirement checks for processor and TPM checks

doing number 3 will require modifying the windows OS updater each time MS releases a major OS update

both paul and SDH have made several posts on this forum on modifying the win 11 updater to allow win 11 installs on unsupported hardware (use this forums "SEARCH" feature to read them) or just google it

If you are happy with your PC and if you are interested in installing W11 24H2 on your PC as is, watch this video, which is the easiest way to do it in my opinion, and I have tried many different ways to do this during the last 3 years.

How to install Windows 11 24H2 on Unsupported PC (Early Access) 2024 (youtube.com)

Download the W24H2 ISO file and use that (3rd option).

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

You can download the free 7-Zip file utility from the link below.  The top line is for 64 bit.

7-Zip

You'll have to repeat this procedure each October when Microsoft rolls out the new builds because a PC that does not meet Microsoft's minimum W11 hardware requirements will never automatically get the update to the next build.

Other than that, your PC will continue to get the monthly cumulative and other updates.

That's only a minor inconvenience to have continued OS support beyond October of 2025.
