Yes, it looks like you have more versatility to mount the drive with an adapter in the SFF.

In the CMT, they use 90 degree angled power and data cable connectors because the drive cage is close to the case cover.

So, I believe that moving the drive forward in the CMT to allow the angled connectors to fit without stressing them, that setup might hit the case cover, or not even allow the case cover to close.

That's what I was afraid of Paul, no room.

Also, can you help source me some Main Drive Hard Mounting Screws - for lack of the proper term, having brain fog at the moment.  I don't see them anywhere, though there are some solid metal spares in the pc itself, but what about the ones for the Main Drive, with the little Blue Rubber Pieces on them?

Thanks, pc

Yes, those isolation hard drive mounting screws used to be extremely hard to find and extremely expensive.

Now they are a dime a dozen on eBay.

These screws will fit any dc7800 & dc7900 SFF/CMTand 8000 Elite through 8300 Elite SFF, MT or CMT form factor.

Also for the HP 6000 - 6300 Pro SFF and MT model series.

They may even work on the newer Prodesk and Elitedesk PC's too.

I don't have any of those, so I can't say for sure if that is the case.

That's it Paul, thanks again.  Perhaps I should have started a new thread for this but...

I looked and looked but couldn't find them on the official page.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Yu won't find them in the HP parts store, and if you did, you would pay $10 each for them if not more.

HP Recommended

Not so much the Store, was just looking for a part number.  Those Extra Screws will work also won't they?  I'll have to try it out when I get a chance.

I searched long and hard for the part number and found it a long time ago...

450712-001

When you go to the HP parts store with that part number, this is what comes up...Part not orderable.

But yes, if your PC still has the four extra blue-grommeted screws in the frame, those will work.

The CMT's have an extra set of those, and an extra set of the smaller black screws for adding an optical drive.

I just opened up my 8000 Elite CMT, and it has 2 sets of each.

If I'm not mistaken, when you order a replacement 3.5" hard drive from HP, it includes the 4 isolation mounting screws.

But you will pay a lot of money if you order a HDD from HP.

Yes, you must have because I could not find them in all of the dc7900 documentation, but I could have missed it.  Those older docs are not what I'm used to looking at.

I'm pretty sure the spares on the pc are just steel, with no grommets.  Anyhow, thanks for all your help, hoep I'm mostly done with this one.  Can't wait to put that AMD Graphics Card in there, haven't had time.

Anytime.

Yeah, that cheapo, used, AMD Radeon HD 2400 pro video card works fine in the dc7900 SFF.

The best $5 - $10 you'll ever spend.

I blew it Paul, and bought a AMD ATI B170 Radeon HD 2400 Pro 256 MB that looked to be in better shape visually, but it was not the low profile.  I think I'll ask the seller if they have and adapter from a Low Profile Model because that is all I see that is different, unless you know different.

I bought this one
