Z2 Tower G5 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I'm having issues trying to install an AMD RX 570 graphics card in my new Z2 Tower 5G workstation - during posting all I get is a single beep and a blank screen.

Based on other support posts that suggests a UEFI Secure Boot conflict and talk about disabling Secure Boot and enabling Legacy Support on the Advanced tab - but I have HP Secure Start Gen 6, which doesn't have those options.  All I have is a "Secure Boot" checkbox on the Security tab.  Initially flipping that resulted the Bitlocker recovery key screen, which just sat with a blank screen when given the key.  Decrypting my drives and trying gets a computer that happily boots into Windows via the built in graphics adaptor, but still just gives a single beep and blank screen when the external card is fitted.

Anyone know what other setting need to be changed?

Thanks.

xeon or intel core motherboard?

350 watt/500 watt or 700 watt supply? the 350 watt supply is not recommended for a r570 as it draws around 150 watts

Intel/700W - though I managed to resolve the issue in the end.

  1. The graphics card just doesn't seem to play well with my monitor using HDMI, though perfect via DVI-D - and initially I was using HDMI.
  2. The r570 is a full sized graphics card, which requires removal of the 'clip in channel chassic fan'.
  3. Removing that chassis fan triggers a (seemingly undocumented) single beep post code and display of a "Chassis fan disconnected press Enter to continue" message.

Of course if your graphics card is playing up you don't see the message and just get the beep - which doesn't match any of the documented beep codes I could find.

The card was initially running a mining VBIOS which wouldn't have been helping but shouldn't have stopped it working.  Thankfully I was able to plug it into my old HP tower/reflash to a graphics VBIOS and (possibly just by luck) connect it using DVD-D and have a working system/try HDMI and find that non-working.

current HP workstations detect the wattage of the installed video card and if over a set limit will trigger the missing front fan press F1 to continue, apon a system start/restart if it is missing or disconnected

if you search the forum for this, you will see quite a few posts on the missing front fan error

Would just be useful when dealing with video card errors/warnings NOT to rely on a visual error message though and have a documented beep code...

it's not a video card error it's a COOLING RELATED ERROR  (901) which is triggered when installing a high wattage card in a system that does not have the front cooling fan installed which is required for a high wattage card

and you are right HP needs to update the docs to include the mini tower beep codes, currently only the SFF (small Form Factor) unit has posted beep codes
