Z4 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have workstation Z4 G4 (i7 9800x). Sometimes Im observe fail of Bios booting. After turn power On, fans start spinning but screen is black and monitor doesnt detect anything, also HDD LED doesnt blink. Few times it leads to loud noise from fan - probably CPU.  Also time between black screen and first apearance of SureStart logo vary , sometimes its about 5-10 sec, sometimes is inmediatly after turn on.

Should I worry and apply warranty or is there anything what I can do to smooth start up for every turn On?  Strange is, that if I force system to turn Off, next time it starts properly.

Update on issue: after few BIOS updates, when it sometimes helps for certain time.

Only solution which seems permanent is motherboard replacement.

If You have similar issue and support like care pack, go for it.

Jiris,

I should say first that I am not knowledgeable about Z4 G4.

I've never heard of that exact kind of Intermittent failure to boot, but the source of the problem must be quite fundamental in BIOS.  If there have been no drive or memory modifications, or they have been reversed to the original configuration, consider invoking warranty service.

Suggestions for consideration:  Have any changes been been made to the system, especially with regard to BIOS update, but also: overclocking of the i7-9800X, storage, e.g., configuration of RAID, adding a RAID controller, adding memory, or changing of boot order?  If so, consider removing, one at a time any new drives and/or memory, or changes to BIOS settings, shutting down and full start after each change , If the problem is solved, the problem involves that modification. and if all that fails, in BIOS revert to default settings. However, unless there have been no changes to the system or you are very confident that anything done is exclusively reversing earlier changes, it is, in my view, best to consult HP as the first course of action.

HI BambiBoomZ, thanks for Your reply.

its strange that its occures randomly. I was only instal gpu which wasnt part of delivery, but is recommended compatible gpu (HP quadro P400).

This behaviour occured at first turning on. I was expect that could be by wrong connection with monitor so I replug cables(it in operational manual) and than it works fine. Im not overclocking any component. I was tried to set different boot order during evaluation of issue - no result, now it in default state ( in booting option UEFI is enabled and Legacy is also enabled by factory). Also I was update bios to last version.  Strange is, that One BIOS update mention solving similar behavior and mention that it leads to change of motherboard- which shall be solved by this new version of BIOS - but its described as persistence behavior, not ocasional. Unfortunately, I bought this WS by vendor and warranty is applied only at vendor - and they have one month to solve issue. This is reason why i would like to find way how to solve it by self with external help - if its not matter of change HW.
