Z400 Gen2 Memory Upgrade with Hynix PC3 10600R

Hi everyone,

I did a bit of research before going ahead and ordering a set of used memory module for my Gen2 Z400 and what I ordered was:

6x Hynix 4GB PC3 10600R  (HP Part Number 500204-061)

This was to replace the following:

4x Netlist 4GB PC3 10600E

As I understand it I'm going from Unbuffered to Buffered memory modules but I'm not mixing any of the two. All six banks of the Z400 were filled with the Hynix modules and upon powering on.....five beeps and a red power button.

I tried pulling all the modules and then reinstalling one by one but with the same result.

Any thoughts?

wrong ram, the z400 uses DDR3-1333 ECC Unbuffered "U" RAM not registered "R"

correct memory will look like this: Hynix PC3-10600U ECC, this means the ram is unbuffered with error correction

Example:  correct Ram

Crucial Memory CT51272BA1339 4GB DDR3-1333 Unbuffered/ECC

Registered ram is BUFFERED with Error correction
