Hey NautTboy,
I've attached some pictures of one of our working Hp z400 maybe it helps as a reference.
You mention you have a 1000w PSU, the standard Hp psu for z400s is a 450w as far as I'm concerned, and it is connected via 24 pin connector on the 'PWR' labeled power connector.
Hope this helps,

Thanks for the pix. Yes it looks exactly the same.
0. Yes 1000W more than enough. 450W is max PSU can handle, not the board.
1. Is your LED on when not TURN ON?
2. It would really help if you can trace the front panel on/off switch to the pin. Just to verify the online finding is correct, pin5-6.
3. is IOH FAN required?

Hey NautTboy,
1. Yes, LED is turned on even when the pc is off.
2. Not sure what you mean by this. I've attached a picture of the on/off switch pins, they have a small arrow on the corner of one side. The side with the arrow is on the bottom side of the motherboard, away from the RAM and CPU.
3. I don't think IOH fan is required, this particular tower we have with a small watercooler, usually they are just the CPU and a single CPU fan. I've added a photo of a different system with this configuration.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like the original poster bought a Z400 motherboard and now is trying to patch together a working Z400. The thing to know is that these are custom engineered and it is always better to just buy a whole Z400, case, power supply, switches, right cable wiring, etc. especially now that they are so inexpensive on eBay. That is, if your time is worth anything. Often patching together one of these HP workstations is significantly more expensive than just buying the whole workstation from a seller who guarantees it is working..
Does the OP know that there are two versions of the Z400, and that v2 is significantly better than v1? An easy way to tell v1 from v2 motherboards is that the v2 has 6 memory sockets and the v1 has only 4. They can run faster processors and faster memory too.
Here's a picture off eBay today, for about 85.00 including shipping.
What you want...

Yes that is correct. I bought motherboard CPU memory combo from 100% rating seller.
Yes it is v2 with 6 ram slots.
Green led means power supply is good.
It could be it is defective on the way.
I just need someone to confirm that pin5 and pin6 is the correct pin to turn on(switch).
If I'm correct. The mb is defective.

I think I found the issue.
Learn something new every day.
PSU is sufficient but I didn't know HP ATX 24pins are different.
This question is solved. Now on to the next.
