HP Z420
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a Z420 v1 Xeon 1620v0 with 16GB RAM 4x4GB Micron 12800E MT18JSF51272AZ - 1G6M1ZG 2Rx8.

I want to add another 16GB and I found at a good price 4x4GB Hynix 14900E HMT451U7AFR8C - RD TA AD 1Rx8.

The question I have is will they will work ok even if they are different rank configurations ?

Thank you !

you can use  different rank configurations as long as each memory bank is using the same rank modules but it's not a HP recomended/supported configuration

IE- all black sockets for cpu-1 must be the same rank and all white sockets of cpu-2 must match in rank type

then do the same for cpu-2 (if applicable)

Thank you !

It worked.

The new memories clocked down to 1600 as expected but they are detected by BIOS & Windows with no issues.
