Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I'd like to configure RAID 1 on my HP Z420 computer which is running windows 10. OS installed on SSD and I'd like to add 2 more SATA HDDs and set them mirroing(RAID 1).

1) Do I need to install "Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST)" instead of "Intel® Matrix Storage Manager"? I heard "Intel® Matrix Storage Manager" does not support windows 10 anymore.

2) I'd like to add bigger than 4TB hard disk for this, however manual said it only supports 3TB HDD. Is there any chance I can attach bigger than 3TB?

Regards,

Thank you

reguarding intel raid, both names you mention are the same program, however they cover two diffrent build/timeframes

the current active RST intel is devloping is the one is called "Rapid Storage Technology" you could have found this out yourself  by googling it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Rapid_Storage_Technology

next, while HP does not offically support windows 10 on the z420 it will install and run fine

the z420 uses a workstation/server chipset as such the consumer version of RST will not work you must use the ENTERPRISE

version of RST that has support for the cxx/6xx series chipset AND WINDOWS 10 which is is the 4.7 series

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28016/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-enterprise-Intel-RSTe...

last the 3 TB partition limit for a  drive is due to the hardware/Bios limatations  used in the z420 and can not be changed

Hi DGroves,

I have downloaded Ent. version of RST and will install it and is there any other way I can use 4 or 6TB hard disk on HP Z420 workstation?

Thank you for your help 🙂

some usb 3.0 enclosures will work without issue, showing one partition others will have problems. there seems to be a wide variation in the quality of the hardware/firmware between the mfgrs of these external usb drive cases

installing a LSI 9211 based card (using "IT" firmware) will allow 3TB bootable partitions, and larger sized drives as two partitions  IE- a 6TB drive will have two three TB partitions
