I will need to take more photos when I get it back in October for SSD upgrades. Running out of space on the project drive, and increasing scratch disk size from 128 to 512, and library drive from 500 to 2tb. This rig is for video editing and music production, boots from 1 SSD for production work, and a separate one for video editing. The two OS installs share all other drives. Looking at the picture, I recall breaking down and using a pcie USB 3.0 card due to time constraints. Fleabay was great for the rear panel I/O shield, was the only place to find one that was in stock. Took 3 weeks from China to WA State. (Reminds me of when I ordered my laptop direct from HP 3 days before Chinese New Year)
The ambient temp sensor checked out fine, but for some reason it wouldn't work so I replaced the transistor.
The NZXT case doesn't nicely fit the PSU of the z420, so I little Dremel work filing away the lip to slide the PSU in and wedging it in place bowed the bottom slightly. It's ONLY noticeable when you pick the machine up, when it is in place you can't tell. I'll be fixing that also while I have it, so as the PSU will slide all the way back where it is supposed to be. It's currently about 1/8th an inch away from being able to be screwed in place as it normally would. I would have fixed this before giving it back to the customer, but his time restraints forced me to leave a few things that I'm not satisfied with since he had commercials he needed to get edited and uploaded to the TV station for airing. I'm keeping subscribed to this and will post back from time to time as I see new comments.
@Justgosh1 you should make your own diagrams for the rest of those, yours for the 1394a makes more sense to view when you've been looking at schematics and numbers all day and come home to change a bunch of diapers and still trying to work on things. The joy of new babies!
