Hi there - I am trying to update my TPM firmware from 1.2 to 2.0 in preparation for Windows 11. I have downloaded softpaq 87753 and it seems to install okay. However once the upgrade process is about to begin I get a "TPM Firmware image is not updatable" error in the bios. I have tried the following steps to resolve:

- Upgraded to latest bios

- Cleared the tpm configuration.

The TPM details are IFX version 4.43. The update specifies I have 63 updates to apply. Could I be too many revisions behind?

Many thanks in advance!

Andrew

I have managed to resolve this so posting incase anybody else gets the issue. I feel that it had something to do with the drive/partition that was holding the TPM data was not visible once the machine re-booted into bios.

I grabbed the correct bios upgrade file that came with the sofpaq. Everyone will be different depending on the level of TPM bios but in my case the file was "TPM12_4.43.257.0_to_TPM20_5.62.3126.0.BIN"

I went to the HP_Tools drive that is installed by default and holds bios and tpm data. I went to the >Hewlett-Packard\TPM folder renamed the "tpm.bin" file and placed the upgrade file in that location (kept the filename the same). I then ran the softpaq again as per normal. The bios upgraded successfully.

Bit of a hack but as I say I think its because that drive is viewable to the bios (fat32)... perhaps.. anyway it worked!

Before attempting to upgrade to TPM 2.0, make sure the system BIOS has been updated to the latest available version

the updater checks the current IPM revision and if a match is found in it's list the update will proceed

you need to follow the directions and run the CORRECT update command and not the individual tpm updaters, let the update script determine the correct file to use for the update

Thanks for your reply. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by using the correct file?

I can confirm that my bios is the latest version.

I am using softpaq 87753 to run the update. The gui identifies my version as 4.43.257.0 - and I let the script automatically determine what to use.

I have tried manually updating via cmd line by specifying the file TPM12_4.43.257.0_to_TPM20_5.62.3126.0.BIN which seems to be the correct one and is present in the directory.  Still get the same error.

Is that what you meant? Thanks in advance.

you were told not to manually try a update and yet it appears you are trying to do so

the update script is all that you need to run, it will check for the correct file and refuse to run if not found or if TPM is currently not enabled/configured correctly

please read the documentation that came with the SP file

Okay so I will be very clear as to what I am doing.

- I am running the latest bios.

- I have download ed sp87753

- The files extract to c:\swsetup.

- I run tpmconfig64.exe as admin

- The gui runs and identifies the firmware version and specifies an upgrade to 5.62.3126. It also states that there are 63 updates to run.

- I click next it prepares the update and I restart.

- From there, the BIOS prompts me to confirm update - I then get the "TPM Firmware image is not updatable" error.

How is that not allowing the process to run automatically?

the TPM updater docs that are included with the HP TPM updater, cover the possible issue with a missing/corrupted HP_Tools partition preventing the TPM updater from successfully performing a 1.2 to 2.0 update and if the partition is missing/unreadable the updater will offer to create a new one
