Hi all, just looking for some help with an old Z440 desktop I'm having a play with.
I've updated the TPM from 1.2 to 2.0 using the configurator in SP87753. It automatically selected TPM12_4.43.257.0_to_TPM20_5.62.3126.0 so just let it run and everything seemed to complete correctly including the part where it rebooted into the bios and actually did the update. When all was done, I went into the bios to make sure that TPM 2.0 was enabled (this was greyed out but had enabled in the box) and rebooted. When I check in powershell using get-tpm it is showing as tpm not enabled, in tpm.msc it says compatible tpm not found and if I try to run the configurator again I get an error (The TPM firmware cannot be updated. No connection to the TPM or TPM not found RC = 0xE0295008). I have checked Device manager and there are no security devices unless I show hidden devices then trusted platform module 2.0 shows and isnt greyed out.
Have I bricked my TPM and is there any way to force a recovery?

Ignore that, I’ve sorted it. Got it running TPM 2.0 ver 5.63. I had to delete the old configurator log and it worked first try.
Thanks for your help
(shame the processor isn’t Win11 compatible xeon 2697v4)

reset your bios back to FACTORY defaults
remove power cord, press power button for 10 sec
open cover and either remove cmos batt for 10 sec or press cmos reset button for 5 sec
again,............POWER CORD MUST BE REMOVED FROM POWER SUPPLY else a factory reset will not be performed
if your motheboard has not had TPM disabled by HP due to region restrictions then the factory bios defaults will enable TPM to be seen by the OS

Try just turning off TPM from within BIOS... I'll edit in the pathway to use from BIOS shortly.
EDIT: The newer versions of BIOS for the ZX40 family changed from Factory Defaults having TPM off by default to turned on. This has caused some unexpected issues. I'm running W11 on my two testbed Z440s here so my installs are on officially W11 incompatible workstations. I have switched TPM off in BIOS for both, have had no issues with that, and it solved an issue that appeared to be caused by having TPM turned on by the BIOS Factory Defaults change.
Here's how to turn it off: F10 into BIOS/ shift over to the Security tab at the top/ There is the upper Administrative Tools section/ in there select TPM Embedded Security/ Go in there to TPM Device/ change its dropdown from Available to Hidden/ save change on the way out of BIOS/ hopefully this will fix the issue. I run those in Legacy mode rather than UUID mode (which can also cause some issues). I run with AMT disabled.
Right now, TPM seems more hassle than it's worth. Sometimes it takes a clean install to get certain BIOS settings to mesh properly with the installed OS components.

Sorted the blue screen, the factory settings reverted my SSD to raid which was causing the issue.
Now I’ve managed to get TPM back to the 1.2 (ver 4.40) and it’s showing in powershell using get-tpm and in TPM.msc , is there an official manual with instructions to update it to 2.0 (ver 5.62) using the configurator tool? I’ve tried to run the update but when it automatically restarts and asks me to press f1 to accept the update it doesn’t run and just boots back into windows

the z440 unless equipped with a optional raid pci-e card will use the intel raid built into the bios the default setting for this intel raid matrix is DISABLED (you have to manually select the drives and raid mode to enable it)
if you remove all attached drives, and do a factory bios reset the bios settings will be non raid
