i just checked the Lenovo RD5500 driver page and manually entering "3700" brought up the driver files for windows and suse linux dated 2015, no firmware updates were listed for the p3700 ssd

Thanks again.  I wouldn’t have deduced to search for the make and model.

Does that mean it will work without update or it’s a no-go for sure.

I could always use it as a backup drive and not a boot drive if worst comes to the worst.

Depends on how good a deal it is. Remember that the very last FW and Bootloader (Intel releases them together) was from 2/17.  The OEM ones from HP/Lenovo/IBM use that to a large degree. The date on the top edge label you show does not guarantee you'll get the last Lenovo versions, but at least they will be close. You can use the Intel x64 command line interface software I found to probe it. From the earlier post by a forum member regarding the probe of a HP-firmware one it showed the bootloader's version was identical to the last one that came directly from Intel. That is a pretty good hint both FW and Bootloader would be the very last.

As Clint Eastwood would say... "You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do you?"

as i stated the oem versions of the Intel 3500/3600/3700/3800 SSD's are all bootable under windows except for perhaps the weirdware dual ssd ver of this series (and even that in theory can boot if required driver is located)
